The new Toyota/Lexus GT3 car has continued testing in Japan ahead of its race debut by as early as 2025.

The car, based on the GR GT3 Concept that was presented at the Tokyo Auto Salon last year, was spotted turning laps at Motegi on Thursday in a camouflage livery.

It’s understood to have been testing at tracks in Japan dating back as early as March of this year.

While yet to be officially presented, Toyota Racing Development President David Wilson acknowledged to Sportscar365 in January that work on the successor to the Lexus RC F GT3 was already “well underway” although was unable to provide a timeline for the car’s entry into competition.

“As far at the timeline goes, we’re not ready to draw a line in the sand,” he told Sportscar365 at the time.

“There’s what we hope and where reality is. Hopefully later this year we’ll shed a little bit more specifics on that.

“Part of it is that we’re chasing a moving target.”

The car is set to serve multiple purposes, not only competing in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and Super GT but also with a likely presence in the FIA World Endurance Championship’s LMGT3 class.

As previously reported by Sportscar365, an active effort is underway to run the current Lexus in the WEC next year, with Akkodis-ASP as one of the potential teams.

Further information and confirmation of the next-gen car’s branding could come later this year.
